Why does the Canon SX 3 take great pictures but bad videos?

I went to a convention just today, and was extremely surprised at how great the pictures were; but how horrible the videos turned out once I uploaded them onto my computer. I've only had this camera for a day, as it was my sisters until she got a new one. So.. why is the quality this bad? The audio is amazing, it's just the picture quality.
